Dear Anonymous,
When you rewrote your contract, did you have any trouble getting Bradley to accept it? That is very interesting, as the existing one is really a farce. Also, have you had your book edited yet, and if so, did they do an acceptable job? Were you able to dispute or reject any of the changes they wanted to make? Hope to hear from you. Thanks

Good questions, Sugarplum. Anon, I am also
interested in any information you have regarding
the editing process. It seems that you have made
the most progress and are the resident expert in
dealing with Hodge. Any info would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks. I never expected to get rich
with Neshui I just wanted it to help me get to the
next level.

Hi Anonymous,
Haven't heard from you since my questions last week. I'd still like to know about your contract, and whether you were pleased with the way they edited your book. If the move to the new warehouse has been completed isn't it odd that they haven't hooked up the phones yet? Please let us know if and when you find out any more info. Thanks

Dear DT and Sugarplum,
Sorry for the delay, I only check this site every couple of weeks. Bradley was glad to "real" contract to copy from, not the boilerplate he handed me in the beginning. Probably everyone's contract in the future will look just like mine.
On the editing, I paid a former writing instructor to thoroughly edit the copy before I handed it to Bradley, so his editors didn't have much to do. They mainly just reformatted it from manuscript to print layout. Once it was formatted, I was free to change anything I wanted, as long as it didn't change the page count.
Bradley IS moved in, and I should have the new phone number and the mailing address shortly. Check back in a couple of days.

Anon and Sugarplum,
Anon thanks for the info I'll be putting it to good use. I really appreciate you guys responding I was feeling kind of - well, actually I didn't know how I was feeling. Dupped, conned, etc. I wonder what the editing services are that neshui provides.Anon, what's the next step for you? Does Bradley ask that you do a lot of self-promotion? Are you shopping your book around to bookstores?

DT,
Don't know what Neshui offers for editing, other than putting the manuscript into print format like they did for me. Yes, Bradley expects me to do most of the promotion myself (sending out review copies, calling bookstores, etc.). I have a lady from my writer's group who helps me with some of those chores. Basically the bookstores will only stock my books if I'm doing a signing there, so I'll be doing a lot of those. Does that answer your question?

To DT,
I've called that number several times. It definitely works, but you get his answering machine and he never calls back. The number is 314-772-3090 Please let me know if you are lucky enough to get through and actually talk to him. I'm so fed up and discouraged. Sugarplum

I had hoped with Bradley establishing a new home base he would be more accessible, but apparently not. Try this number: 314-712-1336

This sounds a cross between a suspense thriller and a mystery. And it also sounds like free advertising for what appears to be a company that does not want to be accessible. Is it possible you could explore other options than this publisher who does not appear to want to know you.

To DT and Anonymous
Hi folks. Haven't heard from anyone for quite a while. How are we all doing? DT, have you been able to contact B Hodge, and if so, are you getting anywhere with him? I'm at a complete standstill and have no idea as to how to proceed. It isn't feasible for me to go to St. Louis and pound on his door, so what do you think might spur him on to getting my book into print? He tells me that the book has been edited (this has been going on since last July), but although he has promised several times that he was mailing it right away, it has never arrived. Now he isn't answering my calls. Any ideas? Sugarplum

Hello all- I stumbled upon this site by searching for 'Neshui' on the net. I have also signed a contract with Neshui to have my novel published, but their phones are disconnected and for a week their hotmail account was closed. It's been several months since signing the contract. How long does it usually take from signing the paper to seeing it in print? Have there been any more problems besides the owner's lack of replies?

I am not sure who can write here.. obviously not the person who chose the subject title! Is it fair to say it should read 'how to write better and get published!'
I am amazed that despite all these protracted negotiations with this publisher, none of you have managed to get published. Do you think there could there be a reason?

Dearest Mysticsdream~
'How to write better' and 'Getting published' are two seperate statements coupled together into one line, not one sentence. There are no teachers here. You can beat it now.

Hi DT, Anonymous, and Hoper
Do any of you have the new email address for Neshui? Bradley is not answering his phone these days, and the old email address is no longer valid. Talk about slippery!!!! Why does this company accept our books and then just leave us in limbo? Hope to hear from you. Sugarplum

Hello,
I've been browsing and just saw the messages on Neshui. Like most small presses, they have a small staff and that can be a problem. Yes, you do have to pay for editing, but the editor who helped with mine was well worth it! It is a much better novel and we are now working on the cover.
Sometimes having an agent does smooth the process a bit, since editors and companies often move (even the big houses). Like I've told a fellow writer with Neshui I've been updating with addresses, etc., this isn't unusual. But I understand the frustration.

Angel,
Glad to hear of someone who is happy with his or her experiences with Neshui. Since you are in contact with them, would you please post their current email address. One would think that a publisher would want his email available to possible new authors. Many thanks

Hello all,
Sorry I haven't been able to post in a while. Real
life had intervened and I had to take care of my
day job. In the interim Bradley finally called me. I
was in the middle of doing something and he
totally caught me off guard. He asked me for
some information which I gave him and I hung up.
I e-mailed him later that week and then followed it
up with two phone calls - which haven't been
returned. Although he was rude that Mysticdream
dream had a point - this is just really strange. If
Hodge really wanted our mateial he should have
some compnent in place to keep in touch with us.
Just look at this way - I wouldn't run my business
this way. But then agin, if he is just yanking us
around what is he getting from it? I don't know I'm
more confused know than before. Sometimes I
feel like some school girl who has a crush on a
guy who doesn't even know I exist. I better go -- I'm
rambling....

HI DT
Great to hear from you again. You said that you emailed Bradley, and I'm hoping that you will be kind enough to post his new email address here. I can't get him to answer my phone calls, so thought I'd try an email. Do let us know how things are going with him. Misery loves company! Thanks

Hi everyone. I am really glad to have people to talk to about this publishing excitement/nightmare that I have been through. I got a contract almost three years ago from Neshui and Bradley asked me to pay $700 for the editing of my book. Because I am new at the business I gladly did it, thinking that maybe if this does well, I won't have to pay the next time. I had not heard from him on and off and when I would email him, I would not get an answer and by phone, sometimes I would be able to get a hold of him. He finally sent me a copy of my book but it was not looked at on his side because when it came here, the page numbers were not right and the new chapters were placed iin the middle of the others. I highlighted all of the changes and he said Feb 2004 as the date of being dome. That day came and went. I did not want to appear rude so I was patient. But I feel like a fool because I told everyone (humbly though) and was thanking God for it. Is he a sham? Can I expect some good resonse eventually? Is he just busy? Please, any info would be great. Thanks.

Sorry if I appeared rude.. but keep writing.. its a tough game.. and if you have something that needs to be said.. keep saying it.. I guess as someone who reads this from afar, there does seem to be a lack of outcomes with that particular publisher, and I can't understand why you guys are not also pursuing other options.. I can remember one Vanity Press that was more than willing to publish, and I am not sure why the conversation on here seems to deal with just the one publisher.. as I say I am a long way removed from the US, but can't understand why there are so mamy posts about a publisher which seems to frustrate people so much. Anyhow may the force be with you, and maintain your courage to pursue your goals, and I hope to hear soon of your success.

DT and Sugarplum,
PLEASE forgive the rude person also using Anonymous.
I would never say anything to insult another aspiring author.
Note: All communication methods with Bradley have failed; pounding on his door is the ONLY method that works for me now.

I also signed a contract with NESHUI.
When I threaten to seek legal advice to void contract, I hear from Bradley. To all please note that contracts DO NOT CONTAIN dates of publication.
He assures me that book will be published.
Does anyone know if we are legally bound by contract if no publishing date is written on contract?
